What have you been up to?

There's a lot to catch up on. Where did life take you after FGCO? Are you married? What do you do? Have you visited FGCO after completing your study? Feel free to share your experience. Begin your comment with your name or nickname if that will make for quick remembrance.

Omolola:
I studied Philosophy at OSU and later did NYSC in Minna with the Military. I really would have joined but I guess I saw enough to make me reconsider. I worked mainly in media (television, radio & print) and education before coming out here to study for master degrees.

Jappy:
Attended FUT Minna from '92 through '96...didn't graduate due to the mind-boggling number of months we had to stay home due to the incessant ASUU strikes! Eventually obtained a BS in Computer Science and an MBA in Atlanta, and have been here ever since.

My wife and I have known each other since university days in Minna, and have been married 5 years now and have a cutest baby girl.

There's a lot that's happened in the past 17 years! Wow! 17 years! You know you're old when you can vividly remember events that happened over 17 years ago...I know I do.

Thanks guys. Let's keep the comments coming.

I started out at Federal Poly Ilaro, studying Biz Admin. Left for the UK during my IT days.

Obtained a degree in Accounting with Accounting Systems. Currently studying for my professional exams (ACCA).

Happily married for seven years to my higher institution sweetheart.

- Studied Architecture & Design @UNILAG
- Started pastoring shortly after graduation in 1999
- NYSC in Lagos with a Graphics & Printing firm
- Got married in 2000
- Started my own IT/ICT business in 2003
- Present Status: Still married, with two kids in tow; business going strong; still pastoring.

Did I leave anything out?

Omolola said...

Succinct! But I wouldn't know if you left anything out... good to know family and business is waxing strong.

I changed my name about 7 years ago (legally). I'm now known as Kenny Oludiya (I just removed the "SO" bit of my surname). A number of us are over here in the UK; some who I don't think have been mentioned yet are Wale O., Francis B., Kingsley O., Bode F., Yinka M., Ibikunle Q. & Gbemisola O.!

I studied Civil Engineering at Unilag and worked briefly in Katsina during and after my NYSC.

Thereafter, I relocated to Lagos and worked for another Six years with then Universal Trust Bank Plc (now Union Bank Plc) till after the banking consolidation exercise when I resigned in February 2006.

Ever since, I have been running my own business in telecommunications. I am happily married and we are expecting our first child by the special grace of God.

WOW!!!

We've all come a long way. God has really been good to us all.

After fego, I got to hang out with great minds like; Gabriel Ama, Yomi Adegboye, Paul Osagie, Wole Banjoko, Wale Adegoke, Ehidiamen Alikah, ... in that tower called Unilag. And for some strange reason they gave me a document with mechanical engineering on it after doing time.

NYSC was in lagos (boring).

Then, Naija life was too tough for me, so God had to deliver me to the A-Town. And once again I had the priviledge of hanging out with more great minds, like; Cyril Nyong(Jappy) and Charles Ohaya.

My Wife and I have been in Atlanta for over eight years now, we have two girls (shot-gun in hand). I now have a Masters in Network & Communication Management (call me for contract). And the doctor says I need to lose 40lbs.

That's my story and i'm sticking to it.

I studied Statistics at the University of Ilorin and graduated in 1998.

My career began as a Research Executive in a Research Based Consultancy in Lagos where i worked for 4 years.

I then moved on to Adecco Nigeria where I worked as a Recruitment Consultant for 3+ years.

In the last 2 years and counting, i've been heading Corporate Services at Phase 3 Telecom in Abuja.

I am a single mother with an adorable son named Joseph Ayomide and since this FGCO 8490 blog began i've been having repeated late night calls with One of Us, should our current marital status progress, you'll all be the first to know :).

Omolola said...

I had a hard time figuring out; the Francine completely took me off balance but now I know...

This is the kind of success story that drives me to more work on bringing us together. Abeg keep me posted and don't forget; the days of pranks are gone o, if marital status go change call in the printers, designers, decorators and let the music play!

also managed as the secretary of the old students association in lagos fora couple of years.

not sure if above said all about my last 17 years.

Omolola said...

Sorry Walata the Great; that's the name the person wish to use on this blog. I can asure you she's an old student who may or may not have used Francine as middle name while in FGCO. It's up to you to figure it out.

Thanks for giving us a sneak preview into you life after FGCO.

Anonymous said...

I thought the whole point of this blog was for us to reminisce about old times. Francine's post is as good as the anonymous posts you delete from time to time.

That's my take on it.

Omolola said...

Believe it or not, some don't want to be a part of this blog "thing", some don't want their pictures "out there", some are terribly upset about being referred to with a nickname they hated but was forced to answer to in FGCO. I'm sorry Jappy but if we all must link up then we have to respect the intentions of those who wish to post comments using pseudo names or newly acquired nicknames.

Francine for instance is reaping the joys of the link up and we really don't want to stir the waters for her. I assure you again that she is one of us and playing the "guess who" game could be as interesting as knowing off hand who this is after all Bros G. posted his story leaving us to find out who this girl turned lady is and not telling us up front does not in any way take the shine away from the seriousness of his story.

Honestly I would have told you but how then will others trust me to let them be themselves... In a short while I'm sure Francine herself will be comfortable enough to let the cat out of the bag. Please bear with us as you enjoy the suspense playing out in FGCO 8490.

I as so sorry everyone for using my middle name to register with google. This is Premo O., by the time i realised it, i had sent in my comments. I did not intend to hide my identity.

Omolola said...

Thanks Premo.

In the interval it took to post the comment, I figured out it was you but it was up to others to figure out after all soap operas is filled with suspense and we don't query them over "Next Week On"... Honestly, I was beginning to enjoy the drama.

Thanks for bailing me out...

I was only an average student with more than enough extra-curricular to cope with, so how come you saw me as Effikko?

Somehow I heard the head girl story; it was such a well kept secret such that even the person who told me did not say who and who was involved... but the person did say I was considered rather frail for the position. 17 years is a long time to find another person who knows the story.

It feels so good to discover that someone who did not appear to be that close to you could route for you behind you. I guess time has proved them wrong. It was one experience that made me determine to excel... I ain't there yet but I'm on track.

Thanks for your sharing.

My people,

It's been quite a while and am so glad that God has kept us all till this day. FEGO was indeed a great and very special school judging from the quality of individual that it produced.

I must apologize for not
communicating all this while but you have all been in my tot and I promise to keep in touch from now on so as to avoid any rumours of my passing on. I am very
much alive pleassse!!! Henry Toby informed me of the misinformation and quiet frankly it came to me as a surprise, so please I am alive so if I get to bump into any one by chance be rest assured that I'm not a ghost!!!

All the same my phone no. is 080..., please call so we could catch up on old times and build
on the relationship we all had.

FEGO FOR LIFE!!

Omolola said...

Ope o! I've been sitting on the edge for your response. At least now we know it's not a case of Osagie and Henry speaking to a ghost.

The whole episode has further made us realse we need to keep in touch...

As for you, more life to your soul!

After fego, I just wanted to write. I went to Ilaro. For all my sins, I did my time there.

Youth service was fun as I was all over PH. I did the ICAN thing and have been writing (sometimes fiction) for various companies ever since

Got hitched in '05 and have a baby girl who is now my whole life.

David 'The Brain' Kemmer.. I salute you. It was really strange ..when I moved to Austria I met a guy Menakai who is now a medical Doctor. He asked if I knew you. Small world.

Anyway me I'm an intensive care nurse and also a part-qualified accountant.

I attended Donetsk Medical University in Donetsk, Ukraine from '91-'99 and I registered to practice in 9ja in '01. Did my house job in General Hospital, Marina '02 and 'served my country' in the Nigerian Naval Hospital, Ojo('03). I think this was where the seed to join the military was sown(too bad Anne didn't allow hers flourish. Who knows?). I worked for and in some private hospitals till '05 when I decided to sell my freedom for 1k only! (Remember the Cadet Club?) and joined the military. I was comissioned into the Armed Forces (Navy) as an officer in Dec '05 and I'm serving (again!) in Onne, Port harcourt in the Naval Medical Center, Onne. I'm married to an angel ('06).

Omolola said...

More like serving forever...

The youth corp immersion helped you say yes while mine made me run-fi-cover. A couple of weeks ago I got a mail from them here; you follow me reach here was my thought as I sent it beyond reach.

I used to attend camps as an instructor; these days even going to the gym feels like work. Well, we've got you there and... I can only wish you well.
