To all, thanks for attending the class meetings. We now have an approved plan for our Big 2.0.
1. School Project
2. School Visit/Career Seminar
3. Celebration Dinner
Plus: Magazine (FGCO 8490 Pen-Point)
Our plan is money intensive but it is a worthy cause especially considering the fact that this is the first time we are giving back as a set to a school through which the foundation for our success was laid. For the school project, just see it like you are giving one thousand naira for every year you have spend outside the lock and key of the school gate. For the School Visit/Career Seminar see it as a national service/community project and the dinner? See it as a celebration of life. For those who can give more, please magnanimously offer to do so. As we all know, we may not be able to reach everyone and few may not be in a position to. Other support window includes sponsorship of the following: venue, decoration, photography/video coverage and music (someone previously offered). Payment detail would be sent to us soon.
School Project:
After much deliberation the house decided to renovate the roof/ceiling of one of the classroom blocks in FGCO. The project is to be done in October and commissioned in November during the visit. The baseline fee per person is N20,000 payable in a maximum of 4 installments i.e. June, July, August, September and due by 30th September, 2010.
Since the issue of lack of power in FGCO due to lack of transformer is a bothersome one which unfortunately the house cannot undertake due to limited funds, the house decided to inform via formal letters Honourable Femi Diya (an old student who hails from Odogbolu) and other well meaning alumnus who may be in positions to assist.
School Visit/Career Seminar:
The decision to spend the weekend in FGCO was waived. The house decided to visit FGCO and carry out a Career Seminar on Saturday 13th November 2010.
We could look at either of the following 3 formats for the presentation:
1. Panel: 20 minutes each is devoted to presenting a paper on professions in 4 categories (Arts, sciences, technical, skill/services). 2 professions would be featured in each category. After each presentation, 10 minutes is devoted to questions/answers.
2. Break Out Sessions: There would be 4 groups (Arts, sciences, technical, skill/services) running concurrently. Students would make 2 choices of groups to join and would switch to the second group after 45 minutes. 2 professions would be featured in each group during each session. After 30 minutes presentation, 10 minutes will be devoted to questions/answers.
3. Have 5 people to present papers for 10 minutes each and have those within that core area respond to questions for 10 minutes.
Suggested Professions:
1. Arts: Law, Journalism,
2. Science: Medicine, Engineering
3. Social Science: Accounting, Business Administration
4. Skill/Services: Catering, Consultancy

We suggest that venue should not cost more than N50, 000 a deal can be worked out with the hotel such that we order food and drinks from them in lieu of paying for hall. Depending the number of hours for the dinner some hotels accept this deal
FGCO 8490 Pen Point (Magazine)
Cares Global Network, publishers of Willows Magazine (for young people) and Divine Connection (for singles) is interested in doing a magazine, 24-52pages (all gloss or gloss cover and white bond inside) tentatively titled “FGCO 8490” or “FGCO 8490 Pen Point” for the BIG 2.0 Celebration. This will be slightly different from a year book in that we may not be able to get the photos of everyone but we will try as much as possible to have the names of all the members of the set. Our best bet would be to get this from the school directly. We will do everything possible to have the magazine ready for the dinner.
1. For full page cost is 5k, ½ page is 3k, ¼ page is 2k. You may use this for congratulatory message, self profile, self-owned company advert, gist from way back, tribute to teachers/friends, mock news, article etc. You can trace your genesis from FGCO till now, you can reach out, you can share a message etc. Pay for your page and do with it what you like as long as it is pro-unitate. Materials should be submitted electronically.
2. Corporate advert – Link us with communication/advert department
3. Private company (of other alumni members) – 10k per page
4. Where we are to do the artwork/design/typing/cropping an additional 25% will be paid for the congratulatory messages, self profile or article and 50% for the advert.
Pictures from school or previous meetings can be sent free but we reserve the right to use. To ensure a place for your picture 1k per picture will be paid. Money would be refunded where such pictures are not used.
Give Willows Magazine to the students. This can be sponsored by those interested. A percentage of profit will go towards this as well. A copy cost N250 and would be stamped “Courtesy FGCO 8490”
Other Matters:
What do members stand to gain?
Since this is about networking as well as about giving back to FGCO, please let me know what opportunities members can benefit from you or your company. Also let us know if you are in need of a job or if you offer services members can buy into. Soon we will be posting a document on the field/area each of us operates in so that we can tap into the anointing sorry resources.
What about other set members outside Lagos?
For now, we have three branches – UK, USA & Nigeria. We would encourage others to adopt the name FGCO 8490. Those in the other branches should come together and begin to put a plan together for the Big 2.0. If you are not located in any of the two branches feel free to initiate one.
The roof/ceiling project we have decided would be jointly done at least as far as cash contribution is concerned. I would also suggest that the Big 2.0 Celebration should run concurrently i.e. 20th November, 2010. A good place to start would be to elect a committee to drive the celebration in your branch.
