Punishments

I got a mail from Henry that reminded me of the punishments we had to endure from wicked seniors. One that jumps at me is the one that the now popular RMD's wife and her friends put me through while in school.

I went innocently to fetch water from the reservoir; we often don't go once we see those seniors but I brazed up and went because I needed water. I fidgetted so much while trying to get water that I knocked over a pack of omo; I can't recollect if it fell in the reservoir or on the ground but lo and behold everyone was banned from fetching water that afternoon, the water became reserved for them alone and I had to fetch water for the group and was asked to go and kneel down or stool down (is that what we called it?) in the senior's room I mean the one that turned out to be the ring leader. One would have expected it to end there but oh no, I was to repeat it every day I dare pass by her. To my advantage the term ended.

Believe it or not immediately I returned the following term as I set my eyes on her she said 'welcome back to your punishment' needless to say I ran back to see if my dad had not driven off. Eventually, it must have been my school mother or house mistress that saved me from them... Honestly, I was going to pay their siblings back but I really didn't have the nerve to punish them for the wrongs of their folks; I kind of had to let it go...

The things we endured in the name of juniors!

Ah, talking of punishments from wicked seniors, I vividly recall the situation then in school when the infamous '89 set had a bet amongst themselves on who the most wicked person was and guess who were the 'guinea pigs' for their experiments? Our set of course!

Many of our mates suffered in their hands in their individual bids to win the bet.......... I recall the incident where Scotie was beaten and one arm fractured by a boy (Ikenna Mba I think) he could easily crush were it not for seniority.

I also recall the duo Tajudeen Kareem and Babatunde Adenekan (heard some years back that he was late now but I haven't confirmed it though) who were fond of quoting titles of one detective novel (was it Agatha Christie or so?) whenever they carried out their wicked acts.

Once they even sent Conga on a mission to capture fifty (50) live mosquitoes! Can you beat that? Well, fortunately for me, none of them ever touched me. I never could understand what was wrong with that set. It was as if they were under some kind of spell.

They even set a group record then of having the worst WAEC result in the school's history. And of course we are all witnesses to the treatment some of them received when they came back for their results - served them very well.

I also recall the case of Samson Keshinro of '88 set (not our dear own Samuel Keshinro the doctor) and one Femi Babatunde who wrote the name "Femi" with a knife on Pablo's back then when we were in class 2 I think. Of course they were expelled for their inhuman treatment. What on earth could one have done to deserve such wickedness? I did see that name Femi on Pablo's back and I was disgusted to say the least!

I also had my share of punishments from wicked seniors. Believe it or not, one I can never forget was by Yinka Sokoya (then house captain of Osun house '88 set) who made me kneel down from after classes in his hostel room at after one 'O clock until shortly before dinner at after six 'O clock in the evening, for over 5hrs in the same spot!

Those in Osun house knew just how 'kind' that fellow really was. He certainly had a heart of stone since he could do such things without feeling or showing any remorse!

For me the worst punishment was when someone "blocked" in the wrong place. That meant blockis bailing from the toilets. Will never forget G. Aruya , but God Bless Rita M wherever she is, she made the job so easy, I always made sure to fall in her group.

Bros G I feel you Oh!! The punishment i definetely feared the most and luckily never experienced was 'planking'- were a locker door would be torn off and one would be beaten across ones whole body even your head. The most viscious and inhumane planking I ever witnessed was when a senior (I cant remember who) planked Okugbe for absolutely no reason.

Remember hanging?
